The baseline study for the “Access to Markets” Project, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry, and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic, has been successfully completed by Zerkalo Central Asia.
During the baseline study, a methodology was developed, taking into account the need for subsequent interim and final evaluations. The assessment also included desk research, a survey of more than 500 households across the country, in-depth interviews with private veterinarians, agribusinesses, and potential project partners, as well as focus group discussions with experts and the population in various regions of the country.
It is important to note that this project aims to increase the efficiency of agricultural production, strengthen the capacity of the processing industry, and improve the competitiveness of products in the agribusiness sector, specifically in livestock farming in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The project’s goal is to improve access for small livestock farmers and agribusinesses (agro-processors, product collectors/wholesalers) to profitable markets for their products and integrate them into these markets, leading to increased and more equitable income distribution across the entire livestock value chain. The project covers the entire territory of the republic and will be implemented based on market demand.
Zerkalo Central Asia LLC was selected to conduct the baseline study for this project following a competitive tender.
Some expected outcomes of the project include: increasing the quantity and quality of livestock products produced for processing and consumption; reducing losses during storage and transportation; improving the quality of product processing; and increasing employment in rural areas.
