Z-Analytics New Year's Survey (December, 2018)

At the end of the outgoing year, Z-Analytics conducted a survey among Tajik citizens, asking them to evaluate the past year, share their plans for celebrating the New Year, and express their expectations for the upcoming 2019.

According to the survey results, the absolute majority of Tajik citizens—92%—plan to celebrate the New Year.

The older generation (46 and above) is slightly more likely to celebrate the New Year, with 96% expressing their plans to do so. However, in all age groups, the share of those wishing to celebrate exceeds 90%.

Four out of ten respondents in this group stated that they do not plan to give gifts. Among those who do (60%), the three most common gifts are sweets (37%), souvenirs (18%), and children’s toys (14%).

More than half of those planning to celebrate the New Year mentioned that they will prepare pilaf for the festive table—57%. Four out of ten respondents said they will make Olivier salad—38%. As for drinks, most will have homemade compote on the New Year’s table—62%.

A phone survey among 408 residents of Tajikistan was conducted by Z-analytics Group from December 13 to 17, 2018.
The sample was random and proportional by region and gender of the respondents. To ensure representativeness, the data was statistically weighted by region, locality, and the age-gender distribution of the country’s population.
The phone number database for contacting respondents was generated by Z-analytics Group specialists based on all number pools issued by Tajikistan’s telecom operators. All phone numbers from the Beeline, MegaFon Tajikistan, Tcell, and Babilon-M mobile operators were included in the database for random call selection.
